We will meet after work on Friday March 14 at a private address in Wanganui. If we leave at 6pm we will be able to set up camp after about 70 minutes of hiking up into Lost Valley in a spot where we have camped before. On Saturday we can explore the northern side of the Valley before visiting Lyrebird Falls. Then we are going from the top of Lyrebird Falls out to Peates mtn Rd. This section is offtrack until we meet the road. We hike up the road for 2km to our campsite. The rest of the hike is on part of the new 4-day trail. Sunday is about 10km. We pass the historic Postmans Tree, pause at the Teatree Lookout with its views to Mt Warning and Cape Byron before exiting through Doon Doon saddle. Each side of lyrebird falls is grade 4 because it is off track. Then all grade 3.
Fit beginners are welcome after a phone conversation and coaching from the leader. You must become a member to participate on a multi-day hike.
