Manali
31-08-2023 08:00 – 21-09-2023 17:00
-SPACE FOR 1 MORE HIKER or 1 MORE COUPLE The trek is through one of the most remote corners of Himachal Pradesh, following an ancient and remote shepherds trail between the Kullu and Kangra Valleys. Beginning in dense forests and alpine meadows above Manali, the trek crosses the Kali Hind Pass to the ancient Gaddhi village of Bara Bhangal in Kangra, the most scenic valley in the Western Himalaya. Each trekking day is a delight with tremendously varied landscapes and a great variety of Himalayan flora and the possibility of seeing fauna such as brown bear, black bear, fox, snow leopard, musk deer, monkey and the Giant Indian Flying Squirrel. On the trek we pass through remote Gaddhi villages isolated by heavy snowfall for most of the year.  There are spectacular views of the rugged Dhauladhar Range especially crossing Thamsar Pass but then on descent another world; a softer landscape of meadows, forests and the cascading waterfalls and one village hanging on the sides of the mountain slopes.  The trek ends at Bir, a small Tibetan village with a monastery. From Bir we drive to Dharamsala the home of the Dalia Lama and the Tibetan Government in exile.    Last time the 12 of us were supported by a dozen staff and 32 ponies that carried our shelter and fresh food throughout. Saturday 26 August – Forest Bathing with David
08:00 – 15:00
This loop walk has now changed to Rowlands Creek (Mt Jerusalem NP) instead of Whisky Creek because the access has been closed while construction of the new Great Walk takes place. There are defined trails leading us to the creek with rock hopping along the way until we reach the swimming holes. I will offer guided nature connection activities during the morning with periods of silence, walking slowly with group sharing to enhance our sensory experience of the forest. We will be finished by mid-afternoon. Grade 3 Leader David Email: david@davidroland.com.au
