A very special place. This walk is on a rough track to the top of the falls before becoming off track for the last half to Lyre bird falls, There is a good likelyhood of getting wet feet and it suits people up for a bit of adventure. K'gari ( Fraser ) Great Pack Walk  Mar 18-24
Fraser Island, Great Sandy National Park
18-03-2025 06:00 – 24-03-2025 17:00
Six days of hiking through giant forests and camping most nights next to crystal clear, freshwater perched lakes.  Leader Chris McAllister 0422 005 771 Cancellation policy: there is no refund for any circumstances once you book unless you or the Club can find a replacement. More info: https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/great-walks-kgari-fraser K'Gari is a special and unique place.  The walk involves six days of hiking approximately 13km a day so, whilst challenging, there will be time to enjoy the wonderful location.  Most camps are on one of the unique lakes and hiking allows you to camp in places that people visiting in 4WDs are not allowed to stay, meaning you can enjoy without the crowds. Being a six day pack walk, ideally you will have done overnight hikes before, know your abilities and limitations and have lightweight hiking gear.  Speak to Chris if you are unsure about any of this. There is the possibility of a food drop half way for a small cost which allows for lighter packs. We will drive up to Inskip on the Good Friday and drive back on the 24th.  Easter and Anzac day are closely aligned this year so if, like me, you have a job, you can get 10 days off with only three days of leave. Only 4 spots plus the leader

We will follow the high tide up from Brunswick Heads and then through Tyagarah Nature Reserve. We will explore a side branch on the way to get up close to mangroves and wildlife, then lunch on a large sandy bank at the halfway point. From there we can continue south - a 3 hour paddle from Brunswick will bring us to Tyagarah airstrip - or we can return to Brunswick Heads after lunch,  judging by participants willingness or otherwise.
