Margaret River Coastal Region
07-09-2024 09:00 – 15-09-2024 15:00
Immerse yourself into the boundless natural beauty of the Margaret River Coastal Region along one of the region's amazing tracks. The 130km  Cape to Cape Track traverses the length of Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and overlooks the adjoining Ngari Capes Marine Park, alternating spectacular sweeping cliff-top views with stretches of pristine beach. At any time of the year there's a good chance of seeing dolphins, and between June and September whales pass close to shore. It's not all about the coast though, there are several inland forays which take in some lovely sheltered woodland sections as well as the magnificent Boranup Forest of towering karri. The Track varies from the 'access for more' section to Cape Naturaliste with a shallow gradient and a smooth, wide constructed surface to steep, rough stony paths and sandy beaches. It is for hikers only - except where the route follows some of the 4WD tracks that are frequented by surfers accessing their favourite breaks at this world-famous surf location. The whole track is a usually 6 - 7 days. The overnight options include some very basic camping areas for Track walkers only, campgrounds with more facilities and vehicle access and, this being the tourist mecca of the Margaret River wine region, maybe a night off in the town, For most of the year Margaret River, about mid-way along the track, can be crossed with care at its mouth, but there are periods in winter when conditions don't allow a safe crossing and walkers will have to take an inland diversion to cross at the bridge upstream. (The river mouth can be accessed by vehicle at the southern side, but not from the north - walkers from the north have no alternative but to retrace their steps if the river mouth cannot be crossed). Grade 4 in some patrs, formed paths in others. Leader Steve 0414312917, asst. Barbara Route and GPX file

Terania Crags, Beech Creek Cave & Cascade
Terania Creek picnic area
08:30 – 16:00
We meet in the Channon Hotel carpark at 8am. This is the rainforest that was saved from clear-fell logging by hippy protesters in the 1970s. We will hike through the protected rainforest, up Terania Creek to The Crags which provides a lookout point to view the whole Terania Basin. Deeper into the Basin, Beech Creek flows down from one of the 150m cliffs. We will have lunch by an enchanted cascade before returning via a large cave under that cliff. Partly on old logging trails and some of track. Grade 4. Hot day expected so bring swimmers. Leader Steve 0414312917 for more deets.

Nature Writing Walk
South Golden Beach Hall
09:00 – 12:30
You love nature writing either reading or writing it and you like the idea of a short forest bathing walk to get into the mood. Perhaps you’ve been inspired after the recent Byron Writers Festival. This is a walk to write and read about nature. We’ll start with a short walk to connect with our natural surroundings. Then I’ll offer a few writing prompts to engage your nature muse and we’ll sit amongst the trees to write or draw with whatever comes to mind. We’ll finish in a circle with reading time. You can either read what you have written, or read another piece of nature writing that you love from another author. You may prefer to simply listen and not read at all; nothing is compulsory.  Our walk will start at the South Golden Beach Hall where there is shelter and toilets. We will walk behind the sand dunes where it is heavily treed and be finished by lunchtime. Grade 2 Leader: David Roland. Enquires: david@davidroland.com.au

Uki to Wilsons Creek, Thurs 15-17 August
14-08-2024 07:00 – 16-08-2024 16:00
We will hike from Clarrie Hall Dam back to Wilsons Creek via a ridge running south. We will divert to a number interesting features like the special Nundah Rocks, east down to Rolands Creek, up Clypot Rd and then past Hell Hole Falls to camp near the new mulit-day camp site. This trail has been completed up to Rockface Rd with over 150 sandstone steps that have been helicoptered in to gaps in the forest. After we climb to Rockface Rd our path descends into the Rockslide that many members have visited in the headwater of the Wilsons River. Then it is an exciting scramble up to the Koonyum ridge that overlooks MainArm. The route follows this ridge until we get to the eastern-most peak, "656" with its views over the whole Tweed Valley. Our second camp is on a small creek on the way down to the Koonyum Gap. On day 3 we cross the Gap and scramble up to the end of Koonyum Range Rd and take an off-track route past the 'Bum Crack', along Nandaly Rd, out to the 'Picnic Ponit' that looks across Upper Wilsons to Blackbut Plateau, before going along under the cliff line that leads to Callicoma Track. We stop at the top of the Caliicoma waterfall before dropping through the rain forest to finish at a property in Wilsons Creek.  Grade 3 with a couple of steep off-track sections. Postman's Track August 4
Rummery Park campground
08:00 – 17:00
Bridget sustained a knee injury in the second half of the walk. Walter also was struggling as I guided them back to Rummery Park, arriving at 7.30pm. Just as well that I had a head torch. Not likely to be an insurance claim. The Postman's or the Nightcap Historic Track is a remarkable walk with multiple ecosystems, massive trees, wildlife and breath-taking views of the Mount Warning caldera, including stunning views of Wollumbin (Mount Warning). The easterly route starts at Mount Nardi which stands at about 792m, it’s not quite all downhill from there, but we end up at Rummery Park 369m. In the middle there is the Nightcap Bluff which stands at 829m and the amazing Dirangah Rocks (eroded volcanic vents) and great views of the Tweed Valley from the teatree lookout halfway. 19km and Grade 4, we will do this as a keyswap where half the group will drive from Rummery Park to Mt Nardi while the other group starts walking from the Campground. We swap car keys when we cross paths and then all meet back at Rummery Park. Leaders Steve 0414 312 917 and Nicole 0417 217 092
